Trump Cussed Out Susan Collins Last Week – Now She’s Looking at the Brutal Demise of Her Senate Career – RedState

There is no love lost between President Donald Trump and Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) these days, and a recent phone call placed by the president to the senator proves it.

The call reportedly took place following last week’s Senate vote on a war powers resolution put forth by Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA). Kaine’s resolution was intended to slap down Trump’s presidential authority in the wake of the the successful arrest of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro in a joint U.S. military and law enforcement operation.

As RedState’s Bog Hoge reported, five Republican senators, including Collins, defected and voted alongside Democrats to “limit future U.S. military force against the South American nation without Congressional approval.” Collins, along with Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY), Lisa Murkowski R-(AK), Josh Hawley (R-MO), and Todd Young (R-IN), abandoned their party to help Democrats pass the resolution by a vote of 52-47.

Trump was understandably enraged by the defections, taking to Truth Social to proclaim, “Republicans should be ashamed of the Senators that just voted with Democrats in attempting to take away our Powers to fight and defend the United States of America.” He added that the five “should never be elected to office again.”

And he meant it, apparently placing a call to Collins and giving her an earful.

“He called her and then basically read her the riot act,” one Senate GOP member told The Hill, describing it as a “profanity-laced rant” on Trump’s end.

The GOP member also noted that the call came “out of the blue” as the two do not talk frequently.

Another source said of the president’s call to Collins, “He was very mad about the vote. Very mad. Very hot.”

“The president obviously is unhappy with the vote. I guess this means that he would prefer to have Gov. Mills or somebody else with whom he’s not had a great relationship. I don’t know, I’m just not going to comment,” Collins remarked when asked about President Trump’s criticisms of her.

Her defiance of Trump notwithstanding, Collins is widely considered the most vulnerable Republican senator up for reelection this year. It should be noted that she is the only one of the five war powers defectors facing an election in 2026.

‘Turnout Machine’ Trump to Go Full-Throttle in 2026 Midterm Blitz

And, now, she has a Donald Trump-sized problem as she faces a difficult reelection in a year in which the sitting president has promised to go full-throttle on getting Republicans elected. Per RedState’s Rusty Weiss, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles revealed in an interview that Trump will aggressively campaign for GOP candidates “like it’s 2024 again.”

Any notable lack of support from Trump for Collins could be problematic for the senator, whom many believe is the only Republican with a realistic shot of retaining the seat. The Democrats, meanwhile, are deciding between Maine Governor Janet Mills, who embraces boys taking over girls’ sports, and upstart Graham Platner, who sports a Nazi tattoo and embraces attacking Republicans, as their candidate to take on Collins.

The midterms are going to be wild, you all. And I, for one, would’ve loved to have listened into that Trump-Collins phone call.
