A popular shop that’s been a fixture of a UK retail park for around five years is set to close for good. Signs have appeared in the window of shoe seller Deichmann‘s branch in Newbury Retail Park in Newbury, West Berkshire, announcing a closing down sale.
Deichmann, one of Europe‘s biggest footwear retailers says the store will trade until February 14, Newbury Today reports. The move was reportedly described as a “shame” with another calling the news “sad” on social media. This week it was also reported that its Davygate store in York was displaying closing down signs, York Mix reported.
A Deichmann UK spokesperson told the outlet: “We are unfortunately in the process of closing our store in York. We continue trading until 28 March 2026 and are keeping an eye on suitable alternative locations in York.
“Sadly, there are colleagues who will be impacted by the closure but the business is endeavouring to avoid redundancies through redeployment where possible.”

Newbury Today reported similar comments from the German company regarding the closure of the Newbury store.
Deichmann also closed its store in Newport Wales on Sunday last week after 17 years in the city. The reason for the closures is not yet known.
Express.co.uk has reached out to the company for information.
According to Scrapehero, the chain had 135 stores in the UK as of January 2025, the vast majority of which were in England.
The firm, which is headquartered in Essen, Germany, began as a single shoemakers shop in 1913.
But over the years the wholly-owned family company grew to become a major international brand, active in more than 30 countries as of April last year. Deichmann sells its own brand products alongside a range of major brands.
