The news from Minnesota is mixed today. From CNN,
DOJ investigating Minnesota governor, Minneapolis mayor over alleged obstruction of law enforcement, sources say.
CNN reports,
The Justice Department is investigating Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey over possible obstruction of federal law enforcement, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
A person familiar with the matter told CNN that a grand jury has issued subpoenas for both men as part of the investigation.
Putting aside the boy mayor for now, what should we make of this report from The Hill newspaper?
Trump says there’s no reason ‘right now’ to use Insurrection Act in Minneapolis
So, what changed? A local CBS reporter (WCCO-4 TV) provides a clue, writing on Twitter (X),
Per the governor’s office: Walz is attempting to get ahold of President Trump directly and is also convening business leaders, members of Congress, other governors to “make an appeal to the administration to reverse course and turn down the temperature.”
Apparently it worked, up to a point.
So, is Walz a ride-or-die Johnny Reb? Or a weak-kneed, Vichy collaborationist?
Time will tell.
