The UK is set to be battered by snow storms this month, with 45 counties forecast to see wintery weather according to one forecaster. WXCharts has weather maps showing snow, rain, and low temperatures for January 26.
Snow will be heaviest in the north of England (Carlisle, Blackpool, Manchester) and the south of Scotland (Dumfries). It will also snow across much of south and central Scotland (Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow) and the north of England (Newcastle, Sheffield, Leeds). The midlands (Stoke, Derby, Milton Keynes) and East Anglia (Peterborough, Cambridge, Colchester) will also see snow. Temperatures will be lowest in the Cairngorms National Park at -4C, with the rest of Scotland and the north of England between 0C and -2C. The midlands, Wales, and East Anglia will be between 1C and -1C, while the south of England will be between 1C and 3C. The Met Office said of the period: “Throughout this period, the UK will see a battle between Atlantic weather systems attempting to arrive from the west while high pressure and colder conditions attempt to exert some influence from the east.
“Initially, milder Atlantic air is expected to dominate. This should maintain often cloudy, changeable conditions with showers or longer spells of rain for most.
“The wettest weather in western parts of the country, drier in the east. Temperatures overall likely to be around average with some night frosts in clearer areas.
“Later in the period, there is an increased chance that conditions will turn colder. This aspect of the forecast is still somewhat uncertain but the potential transition to colder weather also increases the chance of snow across parts of the country.”
