Snow maps show exact date south of England is buried | Weather | News

It looks like the start of the month will be a bone-chilling one as vast swathes of the UK look set to be buried in snow with the latest cold weather front taking hold of the country. The worst-hit areas are on track to be buried under a massive 58cm blizzard.

New WXCHARTS snow weather maps have turned purple and white, indicating that heavy snowfall is on its way. The latest maps show snow and bitterly cold weather building by Sunday, February 1, with wintry conditions pushing south across Scotland before spreading into England and Wales. It appears the brutal weather will have no mercy as snow will be as far south as Sussex and Devon.

At midnight on February 1 Tayside in Scotland could be blanketed in a whopping 58cm of snow. It won’t be much better in Central Scotland where a massive 20 cm snow will fall.

Snow depths will be a little less in Argyll and Bute where it will reach 7cm. Meanwhile, Yorkshire and the Humber will see slightly more snow with weather maps predicting 8cm of snow to fall.

Elsewhere, key cities in the North East including Newcastle and Middlesbrough will see snow depths reach 5cm. Cumbria will see snow depths reach between 4cm-5cm.

Snow depths in North Wales will hit 5cm whilst Central and South Wales will see 2cm-4cm of snow fall.

The south of England will not be exempt from the heavy snow, with both Sussex and Kent predicted to have snow. Devon will see snow depths hit approximately 5cm.

Temperatures are also set to plummet to well below zero, with Stirling in Scotland seeing the mercury plunge to -9C. It will be -7C in Argyll and Bute and Perth and Kinross.

It won’t be much warmer in the Scottish Highlands, where it is forecast to be -5C, while the mercury will hover between -2C and -1C in the North East and North West.

In North and Mid Wales, it will be -2C, and in Yorkshire and the Humber. Elsewhere, in South Wales, it will be bone-chilling -1C.
