Wolverhampton school pupils sent home as body found | UK | News

A Black Country school was closed on Monday after the body of a man was discovered within its grounds. Emergency services, including police officers and paramedics, rushed to Smestow Academy in Wolverhampton today, at around 10.40am, after being alerted to the discovery. 

The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, police said, as enquiries are ongoing to confirm his identity and the circumstances surrounding his passing. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We’re currently at Smestow Academy after a discovery of the body in the grounds. 

“Emergency services were called at around 10.40am today, and the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are now underway to confirm the man’s identity and the circumstances around his death. The school is closing to pupils as enquiries get underway.” 

West Midlands Police urged anybody with information to get in touch with the force, either via Live Chat or 101, quoting log 1452 of 19 January. 

West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics also attended the scene, confirming they were called to the school’s grounds at approximately 10.40am on January 19. 

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to a medical emergency in a field on Windmill Crescent, Castlecroft, Wolverhampton at 10.41am today.

“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer responded to the scene where, sadly, one man was confirmed deceased.”

The school confirmed it will remain close today through a notice published on its website, where it said the incident was “unconnected”. 

The notice read: “School is closing due to an unconnected police incident from 1pm today.”
