A cat owner has accused a delivery driver of brazenly walking up to his front door and taking away his cat.
Cat owner Carl Crowther spoke to Yorkshire Live about the incident and also shared doorbell footage. The video shows a delivery driver walking up to the front door of his house in Elland, near Halifax, scooping up a cat with his arms, turning around, and brazenly walking down the drive and onto the street before the cat is allegedly put in the delivery driver’s vehicle.
The delivery driver, who was working for Amazon at the time, “took a shine” to Carl’s cat, Nora, at around 2.30pm on Sunday (January 18) afternoon. Carl said he has provided additional footage and pictures to Amazon and West Yorkshire Police.
He told YorkshireLive:”As a family, we were really worried as she always stays very close to home. This morning, after she’d been missing since yesterday lunch, for some reason I looked at the cameras to see if she’d been about over the late afternoon/evening. We were devastated when we saw the driver lingering about waiting to seize his opportunity.
“It was total shock and disbelief when he picked her up and shoved her into his car. This was also seen from my neighbour’s camera. Poor thing is on medication and has a heart murmur.”
Carl said Amazon has offered him money, which “isn’t any good at this stage”. A spokesperson for Amazon said this was not the case and said Carl has been referred to insurance protocol instead. Amazon is investigating the incident and has been in direct contact with Carl and the police. The delivery driver is not directly employed by Amazon but by a subsidiary.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police received a report of a cat being stolen from outside a property on Park Avenue, Elland at around 2.30pm on Monday, January 19. A crime of theft has been recorded and enquiries remain ongoing.”
The Daily Express has contacted Amazon for further comments.
