Vice President JD Vance made a stop in Minneapolis on Thursday as part of an effort by the Trump administration to show its support for the men and women of federal law enforcement who have the thankless task of arresting illegals in the sanctuary city. Vance made remarks to the media following a roundtable discussion with local leaders and federal law enforcement representatives at Royalston Square, and called on the community to lower the temperature in the wake of increasing violence.
“Look, I don’t need Tim Walz or Jacob Frey or anybody else to come out and say that they agree with JD Vance or Donald Trump on immigration,” Vance remarked in reference to the state’s Democrat governor and mayor of Minneapolis. “I just don’t need that. What I do need them to do is empower their local officials to help our federal officials out in a way where this can be a little bit less chaotic and it can be a little bit more targeted.”

When it came time for the vice president to take questions, it quickly became clear that the media was not going to heed his request to lower the temperature, with one questioner holding fast to the false tale of a young boy being detained by ICE. Despite those reports having already been thoroughly debunked by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), it was up to Vance to set the record straight, once and for all, suggesting that a little “follow-up research” would have yielded the truth.

MEDIA: A local school district here is alleging ICE agents detained a five-year-old at a preschool on Tuesday. We’ve also seen multiple citizens detained by ICE in the last six weeks. Are you proud of how your administration is conducting this crackdown here in Minnesota?
VANCE: Well, I’m proud of the fact that we’re standing behind law enforcement. And I’m proud of the fact that we’re enforcing the country’s laws. But, you know, you asked a question about this five-year-old kid. I actually saw this terrible story while I was coming to Minneapolis … and I’m a father. Of a five-year-old, actually. A five-year-old little boy. And I think to myself, “Oh my God, this is terrible. How did we arrest a five-year-old?”
Well, I did a little bit more follow up research, and what I find is that the five-year-old was not arrested [and] that his dad was an illegal alien. And when they went to arrest his illegal alien father, the father ran. So, the story is that ICE detained a five-year-old, [but] what are they supposed to do? Are they supposed to let a five-year-old child freeze to death? Are they not supposed to arrest an illegal alien in the United States of America?
Yet again, it’s a swing and a miss for the media. As RedState’s Ward Clark reported earlier Thursday – and this was well before Vance’s remarks in Minneapolis – DHS had already debunked the reporter’s false narrative, reiterating that the child’s father was an illegal illegal and a photo showing the boy with an ICE agent, in frosty weather, was down to the fact that the father had just abandoned the child.
This one should go down in the annals of “how not to do journalism,” but it’s unlikely there will be any lessons learned from this incident, especially when the Democrat Party is helping to push the false narrative. We know who’s calling the shots for the media.
Funny, I don’t remember Democrats or the media being nearly so concerned about the hundreds of thousands of children the Biden administration lost track of after they were brought into the U.S.
