Prince William and Princess Catherine are known to be very protective parents to their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The royal couple have reportedly made sure that there is a strict “no-phone rule” in their home in order to “protect” the young royals.
While filming an episode of Apple TV’s “The Reluctant Traveler” in February 2025, William, 43, revealed to Emmy winner Eugene Levy that none of his kids “have any phones,” adding that he and Catherine are “very strict about” that. William also spoke about his children and technology during an interview with Brazilian television host Luciano Huck from the Domingão show earlier this year.
He added: “When George moves onto secondary school, maybe he’ll have one with limited access. We talk to him and explain why we don’t think it’s right.”
In an essay titled “The Power of Human Connection in a Distracted World”, which was authored by Catherine, and in collaboration with Professor Robert Waldinger, the 44-year-old wrote about the “complex and often troubling” role technology plays in the “epidemic of disconnection”.
Catherine penned: “Our smartphones, tablets, and computers have become sources of constant distraction, fragmenting our focus and preventing us from giving others the undivided attention that relationships require.
“We sit together in the same room while our minds are scattered across dozens of apps, notifications, and feeds. We’re physically present but mentally absent, unable to fully engage with the people right in front of us.”
According to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, who spoke to the Mirror just before Christmas Day, Catherine and William are careful not to spoil George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and seven-year-old Louis.
She said: “Catherine and William have tried not to spoil their children unduly, which can’t be easy when you love them to bits and can basically give them anything they want!”
“Mind you, that line is going to become increasingly difficult to hold as George enters his teenage years.”
