Earlier, RedState reported on President Donald Trump’s Monday announcement of a phone call he said he received from Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) in which the governor requested they “work together with respect to Minnesota” in the aftermath of the Border Patrol shooting incident on Saturday, which left Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti dead.
Claiming both he and Walz “seemed to be on a similar wavelength,” Trump indicated that Walz and Border Czar Tom Homan would soon be talking on the phone as well, and said that what the Trump administration is “looking for are any and all Criminals that they have in their possession.”
In turn, Walz called the conversation “productive” while also deceptively claiming that ICE detainers for criminal illegal immigrants are being honored by the state of Minnesota, something my RedState colleague Ward Clark carefully dissected below.

On late Monday afternoon, Trump again took to Truth Social, this time to reveal that he and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) had also talked:
I just had a very good telephone conversation with Mayor Jacob Frey, of Minneapolis. Lots of progress is being made! Tom Homan will be meeting with him tomorrow in order to continue the discussion. Thank you for your attention to this matter! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP
While Trump didn’t get into specifics on what was discussed with Minneapolis’ most shameful panderer, Frey took to X and implied he went the Resistance route on the phone call:
I spoke with President Trump today and appreciated the conversation. I expressed how much Minneapolis has benefited from our immigrant communities and was clear that my main ask is that Operation Metro Surge needs to end. The president agreed the present situation can’t continue.
Some federal agents will begin leaving the area tomorrow, and I will continue pushing for the rest involved in this operation to go.
Minneapolis will continue to cooperate with state and federal law enforcement on real criminal investigations — but we will not participate in unconstitutional arrests of our neighbors or enforce federal immigration law.
Violent criminals should be held accountable based on the crimes they commit, not based on where they are from.
I will continue working with all levels of government to keep our communities safe, keep crime down, and put Minneapolis residents first.
I plan to meet with Border Czar Tom Homan tomorrow to further discuss next steps.

Homan has been tasked by President Trump to lead the Minnesota operation amid reports that some immigration enforcement agents had grown frustrated with DHS’s messaging after the Pretti shooting. Homan will “report directly” to Trump, the president also noted on Truth Social, not DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.
