A popular pub in a pretty market town has suddenly closed its doors leaving regulars bitterly disappointed. The pub, nationally recognised for its award winning food, said “it’s been a privilege” to serve the town amid reports the venue’s parent company had entered administration.

“We’re Now Closed,” the statement read. “You may have spotted some recent news around Peach Pubs and your favourite local. We want to share a message from us to let you know that we are now permanently closed.

“Thank you for a truly Peachy few years, it has been a privilege to welcome you through our doors and share so many memorable moments together.”

The well-regarded gastro-pub offered breakfast, lunch and dinner, including a daily changing roast, and was hugely popular with the local community, which it has served for the past two decades. It is situated at one end of the main high street of a charming, affluent town famous for its rich history and surrounded by stunning countryside in the heart of England. The town offers a mix of historic charm,  independent shops, top-rated schools, and a decent dining scene, but, alas, is now without its award-winning pub.

The Almanack in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, announced it would be closing on Wednesday (January 27). Revolution bars group RevelCollective, is behind Revolution and Peach Pubs, and is closing 21 venues in total, resulting in hundreds of redundancies.

Addressing the news on social media, a spokesman for The Almanack thanked the community for its custom and the memories created.

The Almanack in Abbey End, Kenilworth, was a prominent, award-winning pub and restaurant in the town, known for its high-quality food, and won the “All Day Dining Pub of the Year” at the 2011 Great British Pub Food Awards.

But the statement from the pub reassured their other Warwickshire customers:”For our sister pubs, it’s business as usual; seasonal menus, serving native produce, and a warm welcome that makes a trip to the pub worthwhile.”

The Rose & Crown in Warwick and The Star and Garter in Leamington Spa are also Peach pubs and these will continue to trade as normal.

The Revel Collective announced its intention to appoint administrators earlier this week while emphasising that negotiations over a prospective sale are “well advanced”. Administrators from FTI confirmed deals which will secure the future of a further 41 sites and save more than 1,500 jobs.

The company stated: “Since the transactions being contemplated are not expected to deliver any return to shareholders, the board has resolved to take action to protect creditors.

“Unless circumstances change, and in accordance with statutory requirements, the board intends to appoint administrators within 10 business days

“The business will continue to trade and the company will continue to work alongside advisers in order to preserve as much value as possible for all stakeholders as it advances a potential sale of all or parts of the business.”

The venues closing, with immediate effect, include 14 Revolution bars, six Revolucion de Cuba bars, and one Peach Pub, the Almanack

The full list of Revolution bars include Cardiff, Durham, Exeter, Glasgow (Renfield Street), Huddersfield, Ipswich, The Electric Press, Leeds, Leicester, Manchester (Oxford Road), Manchester (Parsonage Gardens), Nottingham (The Cornerhouse), , Preston and Sheffield. The Revolucion de Cuba bars closing are in Aberdeen, Cardiff, Derby, Harrogate, Liverpool and Reading. The only Peach Pub to close is The Almanack, Kenilworth.
