Police have launched an investigation into the deaths of a man and a woman found deceased at two addresses located nearly 150 miles apart. Emergency services were called just before 4pm on January 31 after concerns were raised for a woman at an address in Shirburn Road, Torquay.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the woman, who was in her 70s, was found deceased inside the house. Her death is being treated as unexplained.
Meanwhile, officers in Hampshire attended a property in Hythe, near Southampton, and located the body of a man in his 40s. His death is not believed to be suspicious.
An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of both deaths and scene guards remain in place at the two addresses.
The man and the woman are believed to be known to each other, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said: “This is a very sad incident and we are supporting the next of kin of those who have died.
“We continue to work with our colleagues from Hampshire Police as we investigate this matter.
“Officers are carrying out inquiries to establish exactly what has happened and cordons are in place to allow for a thorough investigation of both addresses.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area and we encourage anyone to speak with officers if they have any concerns.”
Anyone with information can contact the force online or by telephone on 101, quoting log number 558 of January 31.
