A man has been rescued after plunging 30ft down a well on a high street in Staffordshire. Cheadle High Street was closed by police so firefighters from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service could pull the man back out on Sunday (February 1).
Local police said they were called at 8.37am, with pictures showing the road full of emergency service vehicles as rescuers retrieved the man. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said the High Street was closed to allow a safe operation to take place and urged the public to avoid the area. The man was pulled from the well about two hours after the incident was reported to the police.
In a statement posted on social media this morning, the service said: “We’re at the scene of an incident on Cheadle High Street after a man fell down a well.
“At 8.40am today (Sunday, February 1), we were called by colleagues at West Midlands Ambulance Service to the scene.
“Three crews are currently at the scene, as well as a technical rescue unit from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
“Our colleagues from Staffordshire Police have also closed the road while we work to resolve the incident.
“At about 10.35am, the man was rescued from the well and is being assessed by ambulance crews at the scene.”
