On Tuesday, speaking to the United States Senate Judiciary Committee, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem had some sharp replies for that committee’s ranking member, Democrat Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), on at least two contentious issues. The entire display speaks eloquently to how unskilled Democrats are at dealing with an administration official who is, to put it bluntly, competent. That’s likely because the last several Democratic administrations were characterized mostly by incompetence.
First, Senator Durbin tried to trip up Secretary Noem on the deportation of DACA claimants, but, as Fox News’s Bill Melugin pointed out, he missed a key point.

The Senator obviously didn’t read through that letter, but then, that’s no more than we would expect.

Secretary Noem was nowhere close to finished. Senator Durbin tried another gotcha on illegal alien criminals, and again, he hadn’t done his homework.

Senator Durbin: Let me ask you about the fact that 85 percent of the 400,000 immigrants that ICE arrested during President Trump’s first term in office, had no violent criminal record. The president said over and over at his rallies, ‘We’re going after the worst of the worst, the terrorists, the murderers, the rapists, and then it turns out that 85 percent of the people you’ve gone after have no criminal history whatsoever. How do you explain that?
Secretary Noem: Sir, when you talk about violent crimes, what you’re saying (is) the crimes that don’t matter that you aren’t counting are ones that affect American families every single day. You’re not counting DUI. You’re not counting embezzlement. You’re not counting theft. And you’re not counting the other crimes against people, and drug trafficking, and proliferating that. So, if you don’t count those as crimes, that these individuals, and impacting families, in this country…

Noem: Those are not counted in your 14 percent. If you were counting crimes that these individual illegal aliens in this country have committed, it would be well over 65 to 70 percent of the individuals that are detained today, have those crimes on their record. Besides the crime of being in this country illegally.
Can we set aside the whole issue of who did what when to whom, as far as crimes committed by illegal aliens, for the moment, and remind the Senator that these people are in the United States illegally? It doesn’t matter an ounce if they are a hardened criminal or a gentle grandma; they entered into the country and remain in the country illegally. They are illegal aliens. Not undocumented – illegal. They are here in defiance of our laws, which are laws, not optional guidelines. Every single blinkin’ one of them should be sent back.
That’s what the rule of law means. That’s what Democrats don’t seem to get. That’s the problem we are having with these people right now.
