Department of lost and found

Senior Minnesota federal district Judge John Tunheim held the second contempt hearing this week on the personal property that has gone lost or missing by ICE in the detention and removal of illegal aliens from Minnesota. I reported on Wednesday’s hearing before Judge Jeffrey Bryan in “For want of a shoelace,” now republished by Alpha News under the more straightforward headline “US attorney interrogated at contempt hearing over illegal aliens’ missing property.” Thanks to Alpha News editor Anthony Gockowski for picking it up.

My long-time friend Daniel Rosen is the United States Attorney for Minnesota. He has appeared on behalf of ICE in these two hearings. Despite the thrill of the local press at the prospect of Dan being held in contempt and carted off to prison in shackles, Dan will not be held in contempt. ICE is unlikely to be held in contempt. ICE will either find and return the missing property of the illegal aliens or the government will reimburse them for it. And the Eighth Circuit will weigh in some time before too long on the propriety of the Minnesota federal district courts’ exercise of jurisdiction in these cases. That is tomorrow’s news today.
