For good reason, the headlines around the newest jobs report are uniformly negative. From the New York Post,
US lost 92,000 jobs in February in surprisingly weak report.
Zerohedge reports that the expectation was for a job increase of 55,000. In addition, job gains from recent months were adjusted downward.
Also from Zerohedge, a mitigating factor for February?
US Workers Unable to Work Due to Bad Weather at 228k in Feb.
Digging into the report itself, silver linings can be found, if you care to search for them. For example,
In February, federal government employment continued to decline (-10,000). Since reaching a peak in October 2024, federal government employment is down by 330,000, or 11.0 percent.
Of the net loss last month of 92,000 jobs, 11 percent are represented by fewer federal government workers. For the general category of government workers, unemployment levels are up for the past year.
Bill Melugin of Fox News reports,
Data shows foreign born workers have lost 519,000 jobs over the last year, while native born workers have gained 128k jobs.
