The discovery of a “suspicious package” at RAF Lossiemouth has seen a cordon put in place and a bomb squad called in. Civilians are being asked to avoid the area at this time.
A spokesperson confirming the incident does not have anything to do with the previously advertised exercise activity, which personnel from the base had been participating in this week. The main gate to the base in Moray, north-east Scotland, has been closed as a precaution. The spokesperson said: “We can confirm that during a routine security search at RAF Lossiemouth, a suspicious package was found. EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) have been notified, and a cordon is in place. This is not part of the previously advertised exercise activity. As a safety precaution, we ask everyone to avoid the area whilst we work with civilian agencies to resolve the issue.”
