Under three bylines, the Wall Street Journal reported on its news pages in its March 14 edition:
The family of the man who rammed his vehicle into a synagogue outside Detroit was recently killed in Lebanon by an Israeli attack, officials said.
Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, a 41-year-old who was born in Lebanon and became a U.S. citizen in 2016, died in Thursday’s attack at Temple Israel, a Reform Jewish synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, about 20 miles northwest of Detroit. Ghazali was a resident of nearby Dearborn Heights.
Ghazali’s niece and nephew were among those killed in a strike on Lebanon this month, Dearborn Heights Mayor Mo Baydoun said in a social media statement condemning Thursday’s attack.
Where does Mo Baydoun get his information? The Journal doesn’t say. The three reporters demonstrate an amazing lack of curiosity.
In his social media statement, Mo Badoun says: “No matter where violence occurs, whether in West Bloomfield or anywhere around in the world, harm against innocent people is something we must all stand firmly against.”
Query whether Mo Baydoun has ever condemned the Hamas massacre of 10/7 or Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel. I can’t find any indication that he has.
Does Mo Baydoun think peaceful citizens of Israel are “innocents”? He doesn’t mention the reason for Israel’s attacks on Hezbollah. Is Israel supposed to let its citizens be attacked at will?
The Journal now reports in a two-paragraph update:
The Israel Defense Forces said the brother of Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, who is accused of carrying out last week’s attack at a Michigan synagogue, was a Hezbollah commander who managed weapons operations for a unit and was “eliminated” in a strike last week. The IDF added that the Hezbollah unit that it says Ghazali’s brother worked for has launched hundreds of rockets toward Israel.
Ayman Mohamad Ghazali allegedly rammed a vehicle into a temple on March 12 and died in what the Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating as a targeted act of violence. Several of his relatives were killed in a strike on Lebanon earlier this month, Dearborn Heights Mayor Mo Baydoun said in a social media post last week condemning the attack.
There is no indication that this squib appears in the newspaper’s hard copy. The two-paragraph update makes you wonder about American immigration law. It makes you wonder what the hell Ghazali was doing in the United States. It makes you wonder about the selectively talkative Mo Baydoun.
