Motorists are facing long delays on the M25 this morning after an unprecedented lorry crash involving three heavy goods vehicles.

The M25 in Essex remains closed clockwise between J27 (for the M11) and J28 (for the A12, near Brentwood).

Traffic Officers from National Highways remain in attendance at the scene to deal with the management of the congestion.

The transport authority also confirmed that all emergency services are at responding to the incident, including Essex Police.

Posting on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, National Highways: East warned that the road may remain closed for some time “due to the nature of the incident”.

While traffic caught within the closure is slowly passing the scene of the incident in lane one, long delays remain.

Traffic maps from National Highways suggest that the event is not expected to clear until after midday.
