Former FBI Director James Comey was subpoenaed last week by a federal grand jury in Florida’s Southern District. It is part of a wide-ranging “grand conspiracy” investigation into alleged misconduct by Obama- and Biden-era officials who investigated and prosecuted President Trump from 2016 onward.
Supporters of the President believe the probe is exposing the main perpetrators behind the long-debunked Russia collusion hoax.
Two sources familiar with the matter tell Axios the subpoena zeroes in on Comey’s role in drafting the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian election interference, which portrayed Russia as having influenced the 2016 election in favor of Trump.
That assessment also incorporated the infamous and widely debunked Steele Dossier.
A recent CIA review, as reported by RedState’s Ben Smith, found it violated basic intelligence tradecraft standards and showed evidence of political bias.
The “grand conspiracy” investigation has reportedly already issued more than 130 subpoenas targeting figures like Comey, former CIA director John Brennan, and others, all aimed at building a prosecutable case.

CIA Admits Political Bias in Obama-Era Intelligence. The 2017 Assessment Deserves Scrutiny
As a reminder, which our readers likely do not need, it’s impossible to overstate the effect the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment had in undermining President Trump’s first term in office.
“It shaped the national conversation. It fueled years of investigations. It cast a cloud over an incoming president before he had even assembled his Cabinet,” Smith writes.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, in a scathing critique this past July, called the assessment “false,” noting that the Obama administration “conspired to subvert the will of the American people,” and, working in conjunction with a willfully ignorant media, staged “a years-long coup against” Trump.

Critics of the “grand conspiracy” investigation have alleged that any scrutiny of their actions amounts to an act of politically motivated revenge, which is a neat diversion away from the reality that their Russia collusion trickery was the true act of revenge for Trump daring to beat Hillary Clinton in the election. It’s like opposite day every day with these people.
The probe, led by Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones, continues to gather evidence in a grand jury setting before Judge Aileen Cannon—a clear sign of momentum to hold accountable those who weaponized intelligence against a sitting president.
“The Russia Hoax was a lie that was knowingly created by the Obama Administration to undermine the legitimacy and power of the duly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump,” Gabbard has previously stated.
