Trump and Witkoff Indicate More Progress on Talks, But Drop Big Warning to Iran – RedState

We reported earlier on the talks/exchanges going on between Iran and the United States, facilitated by Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar blew up the narrative by Iran that there were no negotiations going on. He not only confirmed the exchanges, but he said Pakistan was facilitating the communication, with help also from Turkey and Egypt.

Prsident Trump has now announced that the U.S. is giving Iran another 0 days before he hits an energy target, because the talks are currently going positively.

The full post on the president’s Truth Social account reads:

As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

It’s a bit of a “no harm, no foul.” He doesn’t have to hit an energy target, and he can hit all the actual targets he wants to hit to continue to degrade their military, and move the U.S. interests forward in the battle. But Trump can give the Iranian negotiators an incentive to make a deal by doing that. Not to mention, they may also want to make a deal to save their own lives, so they aren’t next in the long line of leaders getting eliminated. According to the reports, the people involved are allegedly the Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf.

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff gave an update on the talks during the Cabinet meeting on Thursday.

Witkoff said they had presented the 15-point action list that “forms the framework for a peace deal.”

“This has been circulated through the Pakistani government, acting as the mediator.”

“And this has resulted in strong and positive messaging and talks, as you [Trump] just indicated to the press.”

“But these are sensitive diplomatic discussions, and you have directed us to maintain confidentiality on the specific terms and not negotiate through the news media, as others do.”

“I can say this, we will see where things lead and if we can convince Iran that this is the inflection point with no good alternatives for them other than more death and destruction.”

“We have strong signs that this is a possibility.”

Witkoff said peace through strength is the answer, that Iran is “looking for an off-ramp.”

But the key line in his remarks was most definitely the last one, “Finally, we have told Iran one last thing, ‘don’t miscalculate again.’”

That’s the biggest thing here. They’re not trustworthy actors, and they’ve shown that they’ve miscalculated again and again. I’m not sure I’d bet money on them making the right choice here. But they are running out of options, and Trump is holding a pretty big stick – waiting to drop it – in the wings.

Editor’s Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
