Professor Hankins requests | Power Line

Professor James Hankins is the author of Volume I of The Golden Thread (The Ancient World and Christendom). Professor Allen Guelzo is the author of Volume II (The Modern and Contemporary West), Spencer Klavan reviews both volumes in “The Renegade Academy,” just posted online by the Claremont Review of Books. Klavan rightly deems the publication of The Golden Thread “a momentous achievement” and “a landmark event in the history of American letters.” Neither the CRB nor Klavan is prone to overstatement.

Professor Hankins now asks us to make readers aware that he and Professor Guelzo have a Golden Thread Substack site. He explains: “The Substack is supported by Encounter Books and is meant to interest readers and support teachers who will be using our history in the classroom. We want to lead the charge to revive the study of Western civilization in classical schools and civics centers in universities.”

Professor Hankins has posted his seminal article “Why I’m Leaving Harvard and The Strange Death of Western History” at the Substack site. He notes that it “has taken on a life of its own since its initial publication.” He has followed up in “The Good, the True, and the Viral.”

Please pass it on!
