The maternity unit at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent has restricted access to its maternity unit on the afternoon of Friday, May 16. A report from a visitor to the hospital claimed to have heard staff telling the security to block the front door to the unit and said there is an ongoing ‘undisclosed incident’.
The source, who spoke to StokeonTrentLive, said: “There is an undisclosed incident going on at the maternity unit at Royal Stoke. Nobody can get in or out of the main doors. They’ve put barriers in front of the doors and people are being redirected out of a different exit that staff use.”
A UHNM spokesperson said: “Our maternity service is running as normal and as a precaution, to ensure safety we are asking anyone attending to bear with us while there is restricted access to the centre. It is very important that anyone needing health care should attend.”
