Prince Edward steps in for King Charles at inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV | Royal | News

Prince Edward has stepped in for King Charles today as he has attended the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV. The Duke of Edinburgh, 61, is in Vatican City for the event, with an estimated 250,000 pilgrims and a number of world leaders.

The prince is the only member of the British Royal Family in attendance. He has not been joined by his wife Duchess Sophie, who is instead attending day four of the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

The gathering in St Peter’s Square today marks the official start of Leo’s papacy as the first north American pontiff.
