We may have the worst tweet of the day.
Of course, it comes from a Democrat, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Schumer tried to turn the Mexican Navy tall ship crashing into the Brooklyn Bridge into an avenue to attack…President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
The ship, with a crew of 277, hit the bridge after it backed out of where it was berthed. At this point, what the authorities have said is that there was mechanical trouble with the ship. Two people were killed, and at least 22 were injured in the incident.

But here’s Schumer’s hot take on the matter.
With the Brooklyn Bridge strike last night:
I’m fighting for answers about whether Trump and DOGE have impacted water traffic control.
We know they’ve been meddling with U.S. Coast Guard staffing.
Trump relieved Admiral Linda Fagan as Commandant of the USCG, and that position…

With the Brooklyn Bridge strike last night:
I’m fighting for answers about whether Trump and DOGE have impacted water traffic control.
We know they’ve been meddling with U.S. Coast Guard staffing.
Trump relieved Admiral Linda Fagan as Commandant of the USCG, and that position is still vacant.
And the hiring freeze has limited the ability for the USCG to staff up the Vehicle Traffic Service, that’s their traffic control operation that acts like Air Traffic Control but on water.
We need action for our national security, infrastructure protection, and public safety.
Schumer even put out a press release, making the same allegations.
“There are indications that this service [Vehicle Traffic System] may not be fully or adequately functional in light of a hiring freeze,” he said — referring to what he described as the Coast Guard’s “FAA-like traffic control operation.”
The NY Post termed his allegations “bizarre.”
First, there’s no indication that DOGE or the Coast Guard had anything to do with causing the accident. It’s believed at this point that the ship had mechanical issues. So Schumer’s trying to use a tragic incident with two dead to make a baseless political attack, and that’s truly vile.
Second, what does the Vehicle Traffic Service have to do with it when there were no other ships involved? Come on, Chuck, that’s low, even for you.
The Department of Homeland Security skewered Schumer in response.
Minority Leader Schumer’s accusations that a hiring freeze led to the U.S. Coast Guard’s Vessel Traffic Services not being adequately staffed are FALSE. The US Coast Guard has been fully supported and been exempt from hiring freezes. Additionally, this incident had nothing to do… https://t.co/BR4iJX2oX9

The DHS explained that Schumer wasn’t telling the truth about the Coast Guard, which was exempt from hiring freezes. They also said that the incident had nothing to do with VTS services. They said Schumer should “get his facts straight” before “he misleads the American people.” Schumer also falsely attacked the Coast Guard in his effort to go after Trump/DOGE/Elon Musk. The Coast Guard responded very quickly to the emergency to help out with other responders.
At this point, Schumer is making everything about his obsession with Trump. He’ll tell any lie and twist any situation, even these deaths and injuries, to serve his cause.
On X, he got the ratio of all time from people who were disgusted by this one, which was bad, even by “Chuck Schumer” standards of bad.
