‘Keir Starmer will open the floodgates to do a deal with the EU’

Why do we need an EU reset? And what does that actually mean?

Let me guess freedom of movement disguised as a youth mobility scheme for 18 to 34-year-olds, despite assurances to the contrary.

Now, let me ask—are you still a “youth” at 34? And who’s going to monitor all of that? The Home Office is so inept they don’t even know who’s coming across the Channel in dinghies. Britain is breaking under the strain.

The EU still wants to fish in our waters. And yes, they are our closest neighbours—and if they don’t buy the fish we catch, we may well be scuppered in some areas. But surely, there must be other ways of doing things.

Then there’s the question of defence. Of course, closer cooperation sounds good in theory—but the devil is in the detail. A defence pact could further align us with the EU and potentially increase our exposure to the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice.

In my view, the EU is a failing bloc—a failing construct. It’s hard enough to get four friends to agree on something, let alone 27 countries, each with their own vested interests and veto powers. It takes an age to get anything done.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

And let’s not forget Brexit. The EU behaved like a spurned lover. Why would we want to get back together?

By all means, let’s be civil, let’s be friendly. But it’s not like we’ve had a child together. We should simply get along—for the sake of humanity. We don’t need to hold hands. So what, exactly, are we “resetting”?

I’ve lost count of how many times Remainers have said to me: “See? You’ve just swapped people from the EU for people from India and Africa.”

As if people from India and Africa are somehow worse. What is their point?

They’re also wrong—because the truth is, we never even counted how many people came to the UK under freedom of movement. There’s no real basis for comparison.

What we do know is this: the huge influx of legal migration has been caused by the incompetence of our politicians—in particular the Tories, who allowed mass migration to quadruple in just four years. They’ve failed us.

Instead of bringing in the people we actually need—based on skills and demand—the Tories essentially took everyone and their dog, without any serious effort to balance that intake with the needs of our great country. The system was, and still is, far too generous.

Why should my mum and dad be allowed to come here just because I’m studying? It’s ludicrous. What other country allows that?

Keir StarmerKeir Starmer is looking for a new EU deal PA

Here’s what I believe: Sir Keir Starmer loves the European Union. He will open the floodgates to do a deal with them—for very little in return.

Britain is fast becoming, if it isn’t already, a dumping ground for failed asylum seekers. And instead of helping us take back control, closer alignment with the EU will mean we lose what little control of our borders we still have.

We don’t need more migration. We need less.

That’s why Britain is breaking.
