That Didn’t Take Long—Obama-Appointed Judge Leaps in to Rule on Trump’s Actions Against Harvard – RedState

I’m a bit of a computer nerd. When I was running my own business, I became enchanted with macros, little snippets of code you could program that would run a series of commands with one keystroke.

What I would like to code now is a macro that, when I press some keystrokes (let’s say CTRL-F3, for example), the computer would automatically type out, “a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order on [DAY OF THE WEEK] preventing Donald Trump from carrying out his order on [INSERT ANY ACT OF TRUMP’S HERE].”

What a timesaver that would be, because at this point I’m typing a version of that every day.

And now, predictably, a judge has jumped off the top rope to prevent the Trump Team from revoking the visas of international students at Harvard University:

A court has temporarily paused the Trump administration’s move to cancel Harvard’s student visa program.

Harvard filed suit against the Trump administration over the policy, and a judge granted its request for a temporary restraining order to preserve status quo while the case plays out in court.

Judge Allison Burroughs, a 2014 Obama appointee, set a hearing for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Boston federal court.

This is a rare bit of positive news for the Ivy League school:

Josh Blackman, constitutional law professor at the South Texas College of Law Houston and President of the Harlan Institute, wrote Friday:

[We do] …not have time stamps, but the case could not have been on her docket for more than a few hours.

I have a serious question: did Judge Burroughs even read the 72-page complaint and 59-page motion for a TRO? What about all of the pages of exhibits? Did she have any time to reflect upon it or consider countervailing arguments?

No wonder Harvard is freaking out over Trump’s actions. Turns out, revoking international visas would have a serious effect on their bottom line:

Harvard said the policy will affect more than 7,000 visa holders — nearly a quarter of the student body — and is a “blatant violation of the First Amendment, the Due Process Clause, and the Administrative Procedure Act,” per its court filing.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) moved to terminate the program after Harvard allegedly failed to provide it with the extensive behavioral records of student visa holders the department requested. DHS offered Harvard 72 hours on Thursday to come into compliance with the request and re-enter into the visa program.

As I wrote Thursday, “it’s another day ending in ‘Y,’” so of course there’s another TRO against the Trump administration.
