Cheese rolling LIVE: Dare-devils prepare to run down Cooper’s Hill in | UK | News

As noted on the itinerary, there are a couple of “fearless” champions of the cheese roll who will be remembered at this year’s edition.

First up is Izzy John, who died in 2015 aged 72 and will be remembered during the first men’s downhill race at 12pm.

The second men’s downhill race will be dedicated to Steve Brain, who died in 2018. Together, the two won more than 30 cheeses between them.

Steve Brain requested his ashes be scattered at the top of Cooper’s Hill, where the race takes place.

Izzy John was just 13 years old when he chased his first cheese in 1956 and retired from the competition in his mid-20s having officially won 13 cheeses.
