I saw a Hollywood movie in a theater last night, Sinners (2025). I recommend.
The movie has been a huge hit, second in 2025 box office only behind the Minecraft movie.
Here is my controversial take on the film: the vampire subplot is the least interesting aspect of the movie. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a more-than-serviceable vampire movie, but vampire movies are a dime-a-dozen.
To me, the rest of the story is much more interesting. The story of twin brothers (both played by Michael B. Jordan) returning in 1932 to their Mississippi Delta hometown after stints fighting in WWI, running a Little Rock brothel, and working for the Chicago mob.
In my view it’s a “you can’t go home again” story, interrupted by an unrelated vampire attack, in the midst of a tale about the birth of the Delta Blues during the Great Migration.
Your mileage may vary.
