Apparently, this is a big deal in the Commonwealth of Kentucky: the AP reports,
Rural Kentucky lawmaker announces switch to the GOP in the latest setback for Democrats.
The lawmaker in question is state Sen. Robin Webb, who has served in the legislature for the past 26 years. The switch is seen as a blow to Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear, who like every other Democratic governor, wants to run for the Presidency in 2028. It turns out that Webb was the last rural Democratic senator, and only one rural Democrat remains in the state House.
This detail from The Hill newspaper caught my eye,
This marks the largest-ever Republican supermajority in the Senate — 32 of the Senate’s 38 members are Republicans.
Yet the commonwealth still has a Democratic governor. Go figure.
I’ve heard of a bunch of these Democratic to Republican switches in the past year or so, including several that have occurred in 2025.
We are told that Pres. Trump is the most unpopular leader in the history of the country, perhaps in world history, in the 5,000 years or so since written records have the kept. We are told that Democrats are a lock to win every election held this year and next.
Yet actions speak louder than words. Wikipedia keeps a log of party switchers, although the format is confusing. The website lists 12 state legislators switching from Democrat to Republican in 2024 and 2025. But none (zero, (0)) are recorded as going in the other direction.
Curious.
