What If the National Guard Can’t Quell the L.A. Rioting? DefSec Hegseth Has an Answer. – RedState

As RedState reported earlier on Saturday, President Trump signed an emergency executive order in light of the anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles devolving into rioting and the local law enforcement failing to restore order, ordering the state National Guard to take control of the affected areas.

WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt released a statement, announcing the president’s action:

“In recent days, violent mobs have attacked ICE Officers and Federal Law Enforcement Agents carrying out basic deportation operations in Los Angeles, California. These operations are essential to halting and reversing the invasion of illegal criminals into the United States.

In the wake of this violence, California’s feckless Democrat leaders have completely abdicated their responsibility to protect their citizens.

That is why President Trump has signed a Presidential Memorandum deploying 2,000 National Guardsmen to address the lawlessness that has been allowed to fester. The Trump Administration has a zero tolerance policy for criminal behavior and violence, especially when that violence is aimed at law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs. These criminals will be arrested and swiftly brought to justice. The Commander-in-Chief will ensure the laws of the United States are executed fully and completely.”

The vice president also reacted to the EO on Saturday through his X account.

Pres. Trump also wrote about the disorder allowed by California’s liberal governance and its solution on Saturday night, writing on his Truth Social account that if the state and local Democrat leaders in the Golden State refuse to “do their jobs,” his administration would “step in and solve the problem.”

But some at this hour might be asking a tough question: What happens if the National Guard can’t quell the chaos?

My colleague at sister site Townhall, Katie Pavlich, writes that DefSec Pete Hegseth just shared an answer if that unthinkable situation comes to pass. Active duty Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, who are already poised to take action “on high alert,” he stated online, “will also be mobilized.”

“The violent mob assaults on ICE and Federal Law Enforcement are designed to prevent the removal of Criminal Illegal Aliens from our soil; a dangerous invasion facilitated by criminal cartels (aka Foreign Terrorist Organizations) and a huge NATIONAL SECURITY RISK,” Hegseth said via his official X account shortly after Trump’s order. “Under President Trump, violence & destruction against federal agents & federal facilities will NOT be tolerated. It’s COMMON SENSE. The [Defense Department] is mobilizing the National Guard IMMEDIATELY to support federal law enforcement in Los Angeles. And, if violence continues, active duty Marines at Camp Pendleton will also be mobilized — they are on high alert.”

The citizens of the L.A. area, include some of our own contributors, need your earnest and passionate prayers right now–for calm to be restored and sanity to reign in the City of Angels in the coming hours and days. I know I’ll be thinking of them tonight.

As this is a developing story, RedState will provide updates as events warrant.
