In response to the Los Angeles riots President Trump has sent in 2,000 National Guardsmen and 700 Marines. They are to serve the modest purpose of quelling riots and protecting law enforcement from the mobs that seeks to trash the place while while hurling rocks and waving the flag of Mexico. The rioters burning the American flag might give you the idea that, although they resist deportation, they’re not fond of the United States. Things are not what they seem. As Daniel McCarthy points out, they are claiming Los Angeles (and points east) as Mexican territory.
California is a deep blue state. The state’s Democratic establishment supports the rioters. From Governor Gavin Newson on down to Mayor Karen Bass, not a discouraging word is to be heard. The riots are okay with them. They call the riots “protest.”
As they did in the Summer of Love, the media have jumped to the defense of the rioters. The title of the seminal album by Sly Stone, may he rest in peace, is There’s a Riot Goin’ On. The press has sent out the word. There’s not a riot goin’ on.
The apt comparison of the performance of the press is probably to its stellar work in defense of President Biden’s mental acuity. Citizens were not to trust the evidence of their own eyes. It just goes to show how bogus is the current repentance over its manifest failure to notice that Biden noodles and peas had gone missing from Biden’s casserole.
