The first known British victims believed to have been onboard the Air India flight which crashed today have been revealed. A video taken by the Fiongal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek just hours before the tragic, fatal accident has emerged. The pair were waiting in the airport lounge prior to boarding where they say they were “happily calm”.
In the video, they say: “We are in the airport, just boarding. Goodbye India. 10 hour flight back to England. Going back happily, happily, happily calm.” The two men are understood to run a spiritual wellness centre. In a separate social media post on Wednesday night, Jamie recalled the “magical experience” that he and his partner Fiongal had while in India.
Fiongal said: “So it’s our last night in India. Uh and we’ve had a magical experience really. It’s been, yeah, there’s been some quiet mind blowing… mind blowing things have happened… we are going to put this all together and create a vlog.
“I think it’s my first ever vlog that makes me feel a bit but we’re going to make a vlog about the whole trip. Yeah and share it.”
The Greenlaw-Meeks had posted the video from a boutique hotel, explaining how much they had loved their trip to the city.
Just after taking off in Ahmedabad on Thursday, flight 171 exploded in a fire ball after crashing to earth. Local authorities said the 242 people onboard, including 53 British nationals, were en route to Gatwick airport – 11 children were reportedly onboard.
Moments before the Air India Boeing flight crashed in Ahmedabad, a chilling mayday call from pilots was received, revealing that the aircraft may have been suffering engine failure.
The airline’s chairman, Natarajan Chandrasekaran said: “With profound sorrow, I confirm that Air India Flight 171 operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick was involved in a tragic accident today.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of all those affected by this devastating event.
“At this moment, our primary focus is on supporting all the affected people and their families.
“We are doing everything in our power to assist the emergency response teams at the site and to provide all necessary support and care to those impacted.”
