President Trump made a swift exit from the G7 Summit after dinner amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, as revealed in a tweet by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
“President Trump had a great day at the G7, even signing a major trade deal with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Much was accomplished, but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State,” shared the White House official.
The situation appears to be critical as Fox News pundit Lawrence Jones III tweeted that the president has called for the National Security Council to be ready.
“I’ve been informed that the President will have dinner with the heads of state of the G7 nations and then immediately depart for Washington. He has requested that the National Security Council be prepared in the situation room,” he disclosed.
Moreover, while taking part in the traditional “family photo” President Trump informed fellow G7 leaders of his early departure, citing pressing reasons, reports the Mirror US.
“I have to be back early – for obvious reasons.
“I have to be back,” he reiterated.
The summit, which continues on Tuesday, will feature Trump’s first meeting with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. Discussions between Trump and Prime Minister Mark Carney have already taken place, focussing on their workforce and employers as well as the current trade challenges.
World leaders shared updates on key issues from talks to forge a new security and economic alliance between their nations. Furthermore, they agreed to continue negotiations, aiming to reach an agreement within 30 days.
Simultaneously, Trump was set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Canada that same day. However, Trump used his Truth Social platform to issue a stark warning, urging an immediate evacuation of Tehran while attending the conference.
Throughout the day, Trump reiterated that Iran cannot possess a nuclear weapon, reemphasizing this on social media with “IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON.”
He expressed regret that Iran had not accepted his proposed “deal”.
In an apparent reference to Israel‘s attack on Iran last week, Trump lamented, “What a shame, and waste of human life,” concluding with the dire warning, “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” The city is home to approximately 9.5 million people.
Later, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont announced on X that he had introduced legislation to prevent Trump from dragging the US into an “illegal war.”
Sanders cautioned that another Middle East war could claim countless lives, squander trillions of dollars, and lead to further fatalities, conflict, and displacement.
Tensions are escalating. On Monday, a dramatic video seemed to capture the moment an Iranian TV station was allegedly hit during an Israeli bombing raid in Tehran while it was broadcasting live.
Despite attempts by Western nations to calm the situation, the two Middle Eastern powers continue their aerial assaults on each other.
