Understanding Hezbollah | Power Line

Tablet’s The Scroll — I don’t know where it is now to be found online — has just adopted a Quote of the Day in the spirit of our own occasional series. Today it highlights Great Moments in Trump Officials Saying Random Stuff Disconnected From Policy. Park MacDougald recognizes U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack on Monday, speaking to reporters after meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun: “Hezbollah is a political party. It also has a militant aspect to it. Hezbollah needs to see that there’s a future for them, that the road is not harnessed solely against them, and that there’s an intersection of peace and prosperity for them also.”

“Militant” is a mainstream media term of art. In plain English, it means “terrorist.” And it is not an “aspect,” it is the organization’s reason for being.

On Tuesday, Park notes, an unnamed State Department official clarified to The Washington Free Beacon’s Adam Kredo: “Our position has not changed -— Hezbollah is a designated terrorist organization, and we do not distinguish between its political or armed wings.”

Well, that’s a relief. Hezbollah should not have a future. Hezbollah should be destroyed.
