(LifeSiteNews) — In a recent exchange on CNN, journalist Brad Polumbo nailed Democrats to the wall on their support for child sex changes. The CNN political panel was discussing why Democrats are still floundering, and several panelists defaulted to the opinion that it was a matter of faulty messaging.
“The issue for Democrats is not just the messaging. A lot of them seem to think, ‘if we just got the messaging right, Americans would love our ideas,’” Polumbo interjected. “Actually, no, a lot of their ideas are deeply unpopular. The Democrats have allowed themselves to become the party that stood, almost uniformly, behind child sex changes. Across America.”
“That’s just not true,” interrupted Democrat strategist Maria Cardona.
“Joe Biden brought Dylan Mulvaney to the White House for an interview talking about how important it was to keep those procedures legal in all 50 states,” Polumbo pointed out. “Every Democrat after the recent Supreme Court decision—almost every Democrat—put out a statement decrying it, that states would dare regulate puberty blockers being given to 11 or 12-year-olds. … The policy is also a problem for Democrats.”
Me: “The Democrats have allowed themselves to become the party that stood, in almost uniform, behind child sex changes across America.”
Democratic strategist: “That’s not true!”

“So what I would say, on that piece, that is not true,” Cardona insisted. “Democrats did not campaign on that. Did Democrats defend the dignity of the LGBTQ and the trans community? Yes, and they will continue to do that. What I will say is that Republicans totally used that issue, completely weaponized lying about what Kamala was running on, lying about what Democrats were lying [sic] on, and they did it brilliantly, and we didn’t fight back.”
Cardona, of course, is lying—and it is very revealing that she believes she has to. As I have pointed out several times recently, Democrats are now trapped by their loud, emphatic support for the transgender agenda and the rejection of that agenda by voters. Cardona is right that Democrats did not campaign on child “sex changes,” but they supported these procedures—rhetorically, legislatively, and morally—every step of the way.
The Biden-Harris White House actively fought state-level bans, with Biden issuing an executive order in 2022 directing the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Education to increase access to transgender “treatments” and counter state efforts to limit access, including in Texas and Florida. The administration also filed legal challenges, including in Brandt v. Rutledge (Arkansas) and U.S. v. Skrmetti (Tennessee) arguing that bans on “sex changes” for minors violated federal anti-discrimination laws.
In fact, the administration released a scorching statement condemning those seeking to ban “sex changes” for children: “It’s wrong that extreme officials are pushing hateful bills targeting transgender children, terrifying families, and criminalizing doctors. These are our kids. These are our neighbors. It’s cruel and it’s callous.”
In July 2024, the Biden-Harris White House released a statement saying that transgender surgeries should be for adults only; shortly thereafter, they hastily issued a retraction under pressure from LGBT groups and affirmed their support of “sex changes” for children. In October 2024, Kamala Harris publicly opposed state bans on transgender “treatments” for children, insisting that it be left up to parents and doctors. She made her position throughout the campaign crystal clear, and did so without proviso.
Why is it important to ensure that the Democrats do not escape their record on transgender surgeries for children? Because one day, everyone will pretend they were against this. Consider this horrifying quotation from a recent study posted by activist Billy Bragg:
A 3-year-old girl was referred to our pediatric outpatient clinic with breast development and vaginal discharge over a period of 6 months. The [gender affirming hormone therapy] of her transgender father was estradiol spray 6.12 mg applied to both forearms daily. After 6 months this was changed to estradiol gel 3.75 mg daily for 7 months. The gel was manually applied to the chest, abdomen, shoulders, and thighs. The father reported skin to skin contact on a daily basis. A physical examination of the girl revealed a Tanner stage III for breast and Tanner stage I for pubic hair development.
That little girl was three years old. You can read the entire study if you have the stomach for it—I don’t recommend it. This is what trans activists have been pushing, but they only got their agenda passed with the assistance of Democrats across America. There should be political and moral consequences for having backed these atrocities. We must never let them—or the voters—forget.
