Donald Trump threatened with nuclear weapons after branding Russia’s ex-PM Dmitry Medvedev a ‘failure’ in bitter online feud

Donald Trump has been threatened with nuclear weapons by Russia’s former Prime Minister amid a bitter online feud.

Dmitry Medvedev, also Russia’s former President, had started the row by criticising Trump’s threat to Putin that if he did not agree to a ceasefire in less than two weeks, he would impose sanctions on Moscow.

Medvedev said: “Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war.

“Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country. Don’t go down the Sleepy Joe road!”

The US President responded on his social media site Truth Social, blasting: “Tell Medvedev, the failed former president of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words.

“He’s entering very dangerous territory!”

The online argument has since descended further, with Medvedev responding again via Telegram, a popular social media site in Russia, on Thursday.

He said: “If some words from the former president of Russia trigger such a nervous reaction from the high-and-mighty President of the United States, then Russia is doing everything right and will continue to proceed along its own path.”

Medvedev also warned Trump should remember “how dangerous the fabled ‘Dead Hand’ can be”.

The “Dead Hand” is a secretive semi-automated Russian command system designed to launch Moscow’s nuclear missiles if its leadership is taken out in a “decapitation strike”.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Medvedev, who now sits on Russia’s Security Council, has emerged as one of the Kremlin’s most outspoken, anti-Western figures.

The two politicians previously clashed in July, when Trump accused Medvedev of throwing around the “N [nuclear] word” after he criticised US strikes against Iran.

Donald Trump has warned a key ally of Vladimir Putin that he was “entering dangerous territory” in an escalating war of words

Trump said at the time: “I guess that’s why Putin’s ‘THE BOSS’.”

On Wednesday night, Trump said he did not want any business with Russia – while also criticising India, one of Moscow’s key economic allies.

“They can take their dead economies down together,” he said – and went on to slap 25 per cent tariffs on India on Thursday.

The comments came after the Kremlin admitted efforts to recover relations between Moscow and Washington had slowed down.

Discussing his country’s relations with the US, Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spin doctor, said this week: “So far, the process of normalising is going nowhere fast.

“We’d like to see a bit more movement since that’s what we’re interested in.

“We would like to see more dynamics… In order to move forward, we need impulses from both sides.”
