Homeless riots in Van Nuys

Well, more like a minor scuffle. From KTLA,

Protesters were seen clashing with law enforcement as Los Angeles city crews opened the gates to start clearing a sprawling homeless encampment in Van Nuys on Thursday morning.

At least one person was detained as city sanitation workers and LAPD officers moved in to dismantle tents and remove debris along Oxnard Street near the 405 Freeway.

KTLA provides some context,

The Van Nuys cleanup comes as local leaders face mounting pressure from both the state and federal government to remove homeless encampments from public spaces.

It’s about time. Meanwhile, back in Minnesota, the boy mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, was bragging about his efforts to clear homeless encampments,

Our latest encampment report shows real progress:
✅ More people in shelter
✅ Fewer encampments
✅ 81% decrease in closure costs
✅ Big declines in 311 & 911 calls

Encampments aren’t the answer—stable housing is. There’s more work to do, but we’re moving in the right direction.

Mayor Frey was riding high today in the wake of his endorsement for a third term by no other than Gov. Tim Walz. Hizzoner received the Walz endorsement over his rival for mayor, state Sen. Omar Fateh, the socialist candidate.

Also, a note of congratulations to Mayor Frey and his wife o the birth of their second daughter.
