‘Why is the British state more interested in controlling our speech than our borders?’

Why is our government, why is the British state, more interested in controlling our speech than our borders? Ever wondered that?

For years, the political and media class in this country have told us to look the other way. That it was “racist”, “irresponsible” or “misinformation” to ask uncomfortable questions about what is really happening in our own country.

Well, once again, today, the lid has been blown off.

Shockingly, it’s been revealed that Labour ran a secretive Whitehall “spy” department to target social media posts that have dared to criticise migrant hotels and “two-tier policing”.

Last August, at the height of the summer’s social unrest, the government was sat secretly reporting social media content written by understandably concerned citizens.

Interestingly, the emails in question were recovered by a US congressional committee.

They show civil servants complaining to tech firms – including social media giants like Tiktok – about a range of content posted by Brits that focused on immigration, asylum seekers and two-tier policing –maybe even on my own Twitter/X feed! Who knows?!

One post flagged by the government unit with “urgency” included a screenshot of a rejected Freedom of Information request about the location of asylum hotels, and a reference of asylum seekers as “undocumented fighting age males”.

Officials working for Peter Kyle, the Technology Secretary, yes, the same one who just said Nigel Farage supports Jimmy Saville if he opposes the Online Safety Act, flagged a collection of posts and videos with “concerning narratives” to social media bosses, warning they were “exacerbating tensions” on the streets, and asking the platforms what action they planned to take. This was in early August, as the Southport riots threatened to spread across the country.

The dossier has emerged as the government fights accusations that the UK is censoring social media with the Online Safety Act, including from allies of US President Donald Trump.

And just hours ago, the Trump administration told journalists it was “greatly concerned” by the latest revelations from inside Downing Street – mere days after the President met Sir Keir Starmer up in Scotland.

A US State department spokesperson said: “One of the reasons free speech is so important is that it enables citizens to have accurate information and honest conversations about policy failures of the ruling class – immigration is a prime example of this. We are monitoring free speech developments in the UK closely, and with great concern”.

Never mind the Americans – we should ALL be concerned by this latest bombshell from the corridors of power.

While Labour spent last summer publicly scolding their electorate for spreading misinformation, they were using a secret spying unit to encourage social media platforms to suppress the people’s concerns.

We have since found out these were valid concerns, as more information on the background of Southport attacker Axel Rudakabana was gradually drip-fed to the public.

And with another weekend of migrant hotel protests expected right across the nation this weekend, how can we be sure they’re not still at it today?

Anger in Britain is building – make no mistake about it. If citizens feel they can’t trust the government – and that the government doesn’t trust them to air their opinions online – that anger could soon reach boiling point…
