You don’t need a poll to prove that Vice President JD Vance is the Republican frontrunner for the 2028 presidential race and quite possibly the one candidate who’s destined to take it all; all you have to do is listen to the guy talk. He’s politically savvy, and, more than that, he seems to just get it, with “it” being those things that drive and motivate Americans.
Vance appeared this week on the “Ruthless” podcast and showed why he sits atop every poll attempting to forecast the next presidential election. The choice of the podcast itself is evidence that Vance knows how voters are getting their information these days and sees the diminishing returns of sitting down with mainstream media; independent journalists/personalities like the guys on the “Ruthless” Variety Progrum are going to give a much greater return on investment, as was proved time and again during the 2024 race. Podcasters like Joe Rogan and Theo Von drove the news cycle last Fall; Kamala Harris’s inability to be even a little bit normal translated into missed opportunities to get her messaging, such as it was, to their audiences.
JD Vance is much hipper than that and can bro out with the best of them. And he did just that on “Ruthless,” with the conversation meandering from Sydney Sweeney to UFOs to the Cincinnati Bengals to what happened after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The guys got right to the heart of this week’s political discourse: Sydney Sweeney. Here’s the vice president’s take:
My political advice to the Democrats is to continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive [they are] a Nazi — that appears to be their actual strategy. It actually reveals something interesting about the Dems, though, which is that you have a normal, all-American, beautiful girl doing a normal jeans ad to sell jeans to kids in America [and] they have managed to so unhinge themselves over this thing.
And it’s like “you guys, did you learn nothing from the November 2024 election?” I actually thought one of the lessons they might take is “we’re going to be less crazy.” The lesson they have apparently taken is “we’re going to attack people as Nazis for thinking Sydney Sweeney is beautiful.”
Great strategy, guys. That’s how you’re going to win the midterms, especially young American men.
It’s obvious to everyone but the Democrats, apparently.

The topic of the July 2024 assassination attempt on President Trump was particularly interesting. Vance had yet to be named Trump’s running mate at that point, but tells why that day is the last time he drove a car.

Just compare this appearance with the embarrassing efforts of Democrats to break into the new media space, such as Gavin Newsom’s “how are you doing, fellow bros” attempt at launching his own podcast. Cringe. Vance is relaxed and relatable in this space, but that’s not all. While folks like Kamala Harris dither about running in 2028, Vance is busy grabbing both headlines and gobs of cash with which to fund a race.
The Democrats can’t compete with that — and, judging by their current trajectory, they don’t even seem to be trying. While they seethe over Sydney Sweeney and her good jeans, JD Vance is proving he’s a political force: he’s meeting voters where they are, speaking their language, and looking a heckuva a lot like future of the Republican Party.
