The Summer of ’25 was billed as the Summer of Love 2.0, a summer to rival the George Floyd Summer of 2020. So far, nothing. Perhaps a rebrand is in order. From The Hill newspaper,
‘Rage Against the Regime’ protests planned across US: What to know.
In case you’d hadn’t heard,
Critics of the President Trump’s immigration and economic agenda will be “raging against the regime” this weekend during protests in cities nationwide.
Saturday’s “Rage Against the Regime” protests, organized by volunteers of the 50501 movement, are being held in response to what the group describes as a number of “threats” to democracy and human rights.
Who?
The 50501 movement, which is an abbreviation of the phrase “50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement,” had previously partnered to organize the “Hands Off” and “No Kings” protests earlier this year. The group has also promoted several other rallies of “days of action” since Trump took office.
While we are on the subject, whatever happened to the fight against the oligarchy? Did they give that one up?
Channeling a young Marlon Brando in The Wild Ones (1953), what are they rebelling against? What do you got? 50501 has it all. The Hill quotes from the 50501 press release,
its weaponization of ICE against our communities, construction of concentration camps, covering up of the Epstein Files, attacks on transgender rights, and its dismantling of Medicaid, SNAP, USAID, the Department of Education, NOAA, and the National Weather Service
What happened to public broadcasting? The war in Gaza? How quickly they forget.
That “ICE” gets first billing really rubs me the wrong way. As you will recall, I spend most days sitting in the back of a federal courtroom watching the passing parade of the very best “our communities” have to offer. From just the past two weeks,
- July 22–a 900 lb. meth bust
- July 23–a completely different 900 lb. meth bust
- July 24–nine (9) previous deportations
- July 25–felony cocaine and meth dealing
- July 28–domestic assault
- July 29–felony sexual abuse of a 3-year-old (not a typo)
- July 31–criminal vehicular homicide
- August 1–felony sexual abuse of his own third-grade daughter
I’m not sure I’m ready for what next week will bring. I had the unique honor of personally thanking two ICE agents outside of court earlier this week. As citizens, we are in their debt.
