“What satisfies us? A cold drink at the end of a long day, a good book and an old armchair, family occasions with the children or grandchildren, career or financial success.
“Good things. Good gifts. And yet, even in contentment, I still feel the need for some imperishable bliss. The human heart is hungry.
“What we think will fill us up doesn’t. Or it does. But contentment fades. Or it does, but it still leaves us wanting more.”
