Following reports that Prince Harry has “called in the lawyers” after claims that he punched his uncle Prince Andrew during a “family gathering” in 2013 were made, the author of the bombshell book has broken his silence. Andrew Lownie’s new book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, claims that Harry left his uncle “with a bloody nose” before their fight was broken up.
However, after the story was published by the Daily Mail, Meghan and Harry’s lawyers shared a statement denying the claim. The statement read: “I can confirm Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make the comments he is alleged to have made about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry.”
Despite the denial, the author has taken to social media to share his response.
Taking to social media after the serialisation of his book began in the Daily Mail, author Andrew shared a link to a Newsweek article claiming that the Duke of Sussex had contacted his lawyers.
He wrote: “Prince Harry calls in lawyers over Prince Andrew and Meghan story. I look forward to doing battle and the disclosures which will emerge.”
As well as sending the statement to the Mail, Harry and Meghan’s team also told NewsWeek: “Such are the gross inaccuracies, damaging and defamatory remarks made in the Daily Mail’s story, I can confirm a legal letter from Prince Harry‘s counsel has been sent to the Mail.”
In the book, Mr Lownie wrote: “According to a source close to both men, Harry told him he was a coward not to say it to his face. Harry got the better of Andrew by all accounts, leaving him with a bloody nose before the fight was broken up.”
He then added: “He openly accused Meghan of being an opportunist and thought she was too old for Harry, adding that his nephew was making the biggest mistake ever. The source said: ‘Harry later told William he hated Andrew.'”
The book also claimed that Andrew later told his nephew that his marriage to Meghan Markle wouldn’t last more than a month – and also accused him of going “bonkers” before calling him out for not doing any due diligence into her past.
