Ohio Planned Parenthood begins staff layoffs due to $10 million in Trump’s funding cuts

(LifeSiteNews) — Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio (PPGOH) announced last week that it has been forced to drastically reduce its workforce due to losing $10 million in federal Medicaid and Title X funding under the Trump administration.

In an August 1 statement signed by PPGOH president and CEO Erica Wilson-Domer, the abortion giant emphasized that its abortuaries are set to lose $10 million in federal Title X and Medicaid funding and now has no choice but to cut staff to try to avoid shutting down completely.

The announcement comes just over a month after Trump signed the controversial “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (BBB) into law that includes a one-year ban on federal tax dollars going through Medicaid to any group that commits abortions for reasons other than rape, incest, or supposed threats to the mother’s life. In March, the Trump administration froze millions in Title X “family planning” grants to nonprofits it said violated its executive orders on immigration and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, including Planned Parenthood affiliates in nine states, one of which is Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio.

“Seven months into the Trump administration, unrelenting attacks on Planned Parenthood, including deep cuts to our funding, have forced us to make significant changes to ensure we can continue to keep our doors open and serve the patients who rely on us,” Domer wrote.

“The loss of Title X and Medicaid funding represents a loss of $10 million annually to PPGOH. Without a reduction in force, PPGOH could cease to exist, leaving over 50,000 patients without access to birth control, gender affirming care, abortion, and a myriad of other essential health care services,” Domer added.

The provision of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act barring taxpayer dollars from funding abortion through Medicaid is currently being fought in the courts, with Obama-appointed Massachusetts District Judge Indira Talwani partially blocking its enforcement in late July.

Within weeks of returning to office, Trump also resumed the enforcement of the Hyde Amendment (which forbids most federal funds from directly supporting elective abortions), reinstated the Mexico City Policy (which forbids non-governmental organizations from using taxpayer dollars for elective abortions abroad), and cut millions in pro-abortion subsidies by freezing U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) spending.

Planned Parenthood’s most recent annual report revealed that its affiliates across the nation took in $699.3 million in government “health services” reimbursements and grants, accounting for 39 percent of its total revenue during that period. This considerable loss in revenue has led to several prominent Planned Parenthood facilities being forced to lay off employees or close down entirely.

In the Buckeye State, Planned Parenthood’s Cleveland Health Center was closed in June, and two southwest Ohio abortuaries were also shut down at the beginning of August. These closures along with Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio’s layoff announcement are particularly noteworthy because the state’s laws are radically pro-abortion.

Abortion is legal in Ohio up to 22 weeks into a woman’s pregnancy and allowed up to birth if deemed necessary to protect the mother’s life or heath, a standard that can be stretched to include a mother’s mental and emotional well-being in order to justify elective abortion. Of course, abortion, the deliberate killing of a preborn baby, is never medically necessary or justifiable.

Elsewhere in the U.S., Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast recently announced plans to close its massive and notorious 78,000 square-foot Prevention Park location. In the past week, the abortion giant’s Gulf Coast network also announced the closure of its last two locations in Louisiana.
