Both EasyJet flights were leaving Terminal One at around 6.30am when they “came into contact.”
One was scheduled to fly to Gibraltar, while the other was headed for Paris.
A spokesperson for EasyJet said: “EasyJet can confirm that two aircraft came into contact whilst taxiing to the runway at Manchester Airport.
“An immediate investigation has been launched to understand what happened.
“The safety and security of our passengers and crew is our highest priority.”
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
It is understood that one of the planes involved had part of a wing tip missing following impact.
One person onboard the place wrote on social media: “We’ve crashed on the runway.”
Another said: “Just on the plane at Manchester Airport and another plane has just hit our wing and took the wing off.”
An investigation into the collision is now underway.
Flights were briefly suspended as a safety precaution following the incident

PAPhotos shared online showed the two easyJet aircraft positioned next to each other.
Flights were temporarily halted while safety inspections were conducted on the planes.
Departures and arrivals resumed shortly afterward.
