Exactly what Trump and Putin said to each other in Alaska revealed by lip reader | World | News

A lip reader has shed light on the exchange between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska. The two leaders reached Anchorage in the US state before 8pm BST and, in hugely choreographed scenes, left their planes at nearly the same time.

They then came together on a red carpet, where they shook hands for the first time since their last meeting in 2019. Then, they exchanged a few words, revealed by a lip reader. Speaking to the Express, Nicola Hickling believes the pair said: “Trump begins clapping as Putin approaches and says, ‘Finally.’ As they shake hands, Trump adds, ‘You made it, fantastic to see you and appreciated,’ followed by a sharp intake of breath through his teeth. Putin responds, ‘Thank you — and you. I am here to help you.’ Trump replies, ‘I’ll help you.’ Pointing towards Trump, Putin says, ‘All they need is to ask.’ Trump answers simply, ‘Okay.’

“Putin continues, ‘I will bring it to a rest.’ Trump responds, ‘I hope it does.’ Turning towards the vehicle, Trump smiles and says, ‘Come on, let’s get straight into the vehicle. We need to move forward, both giving it attention. I know this is serious, it’s quite long. What a journey it is’.”

The lip reader continued: “Trump salutes and says, ‘Thank you.’ He follows with, ‘It’s high pressure. Do you want the scoop?’ Putin nods: ‘Give me the scoop.’ Trump tells him, ‘It’s cargo fuel.’

“Putin replies, ‘Oh.’ On the podium, Trump says, ‘Thank you. Let’s shake hands — it gives a good impression.’ Putin nods in agreement, shakes his hand, and says, ‘Thank you’.”

As Putin and Trump posed for photographs on the runway of an Alaskan air base journalists were quick to fire questions at the Russian leader.

One asked: “Mr Putin, did you underestimate Ukraine?”, before the next question, asking: “President Putin, will you stop killing civilians?”

As the two leaders walked away, another question rang out, “President Putin, how can the US trust your word?”

Putin did not respond to any of the questions and, at one moment, shrugged, appearing to signal that he had no earpiece in for translations, despite the fact that he is known to be able to speak English.
