On his “Real Time” show on Friday night, Bill Maher delivered unusual praise for President Donald Trump, as well as some sharp criticism for Democrats.
He was speaking about Trump’s interaction with the leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin, after their meeting on Friday to work out a peace deal on Ukraine.
Maher said he thought Trump had been overly “friendly” with Putin in the past. But he condemned the “zombie lie” that Trump is in league with Putin
“First of all, [Trump] bombed Iran, that was a Putin ally. He didn’t get out of NATO. He mended fences with NATO. And he put sanctions back on Russia.” That’s exactly right, plus under Trump, they also bombed Russian contractors and killed a bunch of them after they fired on a U.S. troop position in Syria. He’s chastised countries like Germany when we’re paying money to help provide for their defense from Russia. He also put higher tariffs on India for buying oil from Russia just this month.
That skewers a major lie that Democrats have about Trump with some logic and facts.
Maher also praised other actions by Trump on tariffs and making NATO members pay their fair share for their defense.

He admitted Trump wasn’t wrong on tariffs, or on forcing NATO to pay their fair share of defense budgets.

“He’s got this idea that the U.S. is still the biggest swinging d**k in the world, and we have not used our power as much as we should,” Maher said. “That’s what the tariffs are about.”
He acknowledged that Trump was right about some of the other nations’ trading practices being out of line against us. Maher said he was surprised that other countries caved as much as they did on trade deals.
“He really does hate war,” Maher insisted, talking about Trump. “He really does not like it when people die in war.”
Maher then turned to the Democrats, chastising them for being too fearful to come on his show. He said his program has repeatedly asked people like Kamala Harris and the Clintons to come on, and “they say no.”

“It took eight years and a petition to get Obama on,” he explained, then continued:
“And these are all people I voted for. Think about that. They’re afraid to come on the show of a guy who voted for them. The Republicans—they show up, and when they do, they take their beating like a man.”
Again, great observation. He should take that to heart. Perhaps he has, since he’s saying it. Not only are the Dems cowards, but they think they don’t owe the public who voted for them anything, that they can blow them off. They know that in the case of Maher, even if he voted for them, he might expose them for being false.
