Susan Vass was a humor worker. She worked as a stand-up comedian. She made people laugh for a living. It’s a tough way to go. Not many can do it. Writing a weekly column for Power Line under the pseudonym Ammo Grrrll along with a photo that facilitated the discovery of her identity, she has attracted so many fans that she runs an annual conference for her commenters. This year’s conference convenes tonight at a Minnesota resort.
I have been working on remarks for Susan’s assembled fans to kick off the event this evening. Looking around (unsuccessfully) for a little humor to lighten my thoughts on the past discontents that have kept me going online for 23 year, I came across a video clip of Susan’s humor work. The video was recorded by Twin Cities Public Television. I regret that the clip is not embeddable, but it is posted online here. It comes with the précis “Vass shares her love of food…and her weight.” Watching it yesterday, I thought I haven’t laughed so hard since Richard Pryor taught Gene Wilder how to impersonate a black man in Silver Streak (1976).
