The story of a Sikh truck driver who made an illegal U-turn in Florida and killed three people has taken an even more disturbing turn, and now Gov. Gavin Newsom of California is implicated.
In-cab video showed Harjinder Singh and a driving companion using an “official use only” turnaround on a highway. As they entered the opposing lane of traffic, a minivan slammed into the side of the trailer, destroying it beyond all recognition. Its three occupants were killed, and Signh is now in custody, facing manslaughter charges.
That wasn’t the end of the ordeal, though. As Florida authorities began to dig into the truck driver’s background, they discovered he’s an illegal immigrant. Worse, he was issued a commercial driver’s license under Newsom’s sanctuary state policies.

Singh crossed into California in 2018, and instead of reporting his illegal status, the state gave him a CDL to go drive around the country with. That’s simply astonishing. While I disagree with issuing any type of license to illegal immigrants, as the perverse incentives and possible fraud associated with the policy are too great, giving a commercial license is a completely different level of insanity.
Truck drivers are supposed to be held to a higher standard than typical motorists, and you’d think being in the country legally would be a baseline. California Democrats were apparently giving CDLs out like candy to illegal immigrants, though. For context, Newsom was lieutenant governor when AB60, the bill that gave drivers’ licenses to illegal immigrants, and since becoming governor, he has repeatedly affirmed the policy as necessary. Now, three more people are dead due to his politicization and negligence.
I don’t know if Florida has any kind of legal redress here (aside from charging Singh, which is already happening), but hopefully the state’s lawyers are digging deep to figure that out. It seems crazy that a state could knowingly give an illegal immigrant a CDL, have that illegal immigrant kill three people, and then not be held responsible somehow. I’d love to see some kind of lawsuit against the State of California pursued if such a path exists.
Meanwhile, Newsom continues to run around, trying to redo Kamala Harris’ “brat summer” strategy while prepping his 2028 presidential campaign. He’s a disgusting politician who would see California and every other state burn to the ground if it meant he could get his face on television. I sincerely hope the American people take one look at his record and scoff at his attempt to enter national politics. If they don’t, we’re cooked.
