President Donald Trump on Tuesday vowed to gut all “woke” nonsense from our museums, specifically calling out the Smithsonian.
The president criticized our museums for downplaying American greatness, and instead promoting “woke” ideology that denigrates our nation.
“The Museums throughout Washington, but all over the country are, essentially, the last remaining segment of ‘WOKE,’” Trump declared in a Truth Social post.
“The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our country is, how bad slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been — nothing about success, nothing about brightness, nothing about the future,” he criticized.
Trump said he’s instructed his attorneys to rid “wokeness” from our museums through the “exact same process that has been done with colleges and universities.”
“This country cannot be WOKE, because WOKE IS BROKE,” the president emphasized. “We have the ‘HOTTEST’ country in the world, and we want people to talk about it, including in our museums.”

Currently, the Smithsonian often promotes overt ideological content, radical gender ideology, LGBT propaganda, or aggressive reframing of events like the COVID pandemic or the Black Lives Matter movement, The Daily Wire reported.
Last week, the Trump administration moved to weed out the left-wing ideology and historical spin from the institution. In a letter dated August 12, Trump officials Lindsey Halligan, Vince Haley, and Russ Vought informed Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch that the administration will be conducting a “comprehensive internal review of selected Smithsonian museums and exhibitions” in fulfillment of the president’s “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History” executive order.

“This initiative aims to ensure alignment with the President’s directive to celebrate American exceptionalism, remove divisive or partisan narratives, and restore confidence in our shared cultural institutions,” the Trump officials told the Smithsonian, noting their review is “rooted in respect for the Smithsonian’s vital mission and its extraordinary contributions” and they want to “support a broader vision of excellence that highlights historically accurate, uplifting, and inclusive portrayals of America’s heritage.”
As Trump posted on Truth Social, his administration has targeted left-wing ideology permeating our colleges and universities, too.
For example, in February, Trump gave schools and universities across the country two weeks to eliminate controversial diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, or risk losing federal funding. The Department of Education specifically told schools to stop practicing “racial preferences” in admissions, financial aid, hiring, or other areas, the Associated Press noted.
Trump has also told schools they must comply with sex and gender on the basis of reality, not radical gender theory. In one prominent example, the University of Pennsylvania agreed to strip trans-identifying male swimmer Lia Thomas of the titles he won on the women’s team.
